Maximal extractable value (MEV) is a measure devised to study consensus security by modeling the profit a miner (or validator, sequencer, or other privileged protocol actor) can make through their ability to arbitrarily include, exclude, or re-order transactions from the blocks they produce.

MEV is a complex and multidisciplinary research area, bringing together ideas from computer science, cryptography, economics, game theory, programing languages, hardware, and more. MEV-SBC aims to highlight important MEV research done in the past year and talks that will illuminate a new round of research problems the community should prioritize. The workshop is a satellite event of The Science of Blockchain Conference (SBC’26).
